Designed and accredited by the Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK), the Immediate Life Support (ILS) course equips healthcare professionals with critical emergency response skills for managing deteriorating patients and preventing cardiopulmonary arrest. The ILS programme is specifically tailored for first responders in high-pressure situations, focusing on patient management, identifying underlying causes of cardiac arrest, and improving teamwork and leadership abilities.
The course includes lectures, skill stations, and cardiac arrest simulations (CASTeach) to provide participants with practical, hands-on experience. With a maximum of 6 participants per course, we ensure personalised attention and an interactive learning environment to maximise skill acquisition.
The ILS certification is recognised across the UK, the EU, and Australia, making it a valuable qualification for healthcare professionals globally.
The Immediate Life Support (ILS) programme is tailored for a diverse range of healthcare professionals and emergency service providers, including doctors, medical and nursing students, midwives, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), paramedics, physiotherapists, and dental professionals. This course is ideal for anyone in the health and care sectors looking to build essential life support skills.
In addition, the ILS course is also highly suitable for fire service technicians, police officers, prison staff, and cabin crew members who may encounter critical situations requiring immediate medical intervention. This broad applicability makes the ILS programme a valuable training option for professionals across a wide spectrum of roles.
In this comprehensive one-day training, participants will acquire essential lifesaving skills to handle emergency situations effectively. The course covers a range of key techniques, including:
Applying the ABCDE method to identify and manage deteriorating patient conditions;
Identifying the reasons for cardiopulmonary arrest and promoting its prevention;
Developing non-technical skills to enhance team leadership and collaboration during high-stress situations.
Assessment is conducted continuously throughout the Immediate Life Support (ILS) course, using specific assessment forms tailored to each core skill. Candidates will receive these forms along with the course manual prior to the start of the training, allowing adequate time for preparation.
Upon successful completion, participants are awarded the RCUK Immediate Life Support certificate, a qualification recognised as Continuing Professional Development (CPD) by the Medical, Dental, and Nursing Royal Colleges, as well as the Health Care Professional Council.
